Vena Vitals Advances the Future of Continuous Blood Pressure Monitoring

Roseman Bioventures resident company is developing wearable technology aimed at solving a longstanding challenge in patient monitoring

What if monitoring a patient’s blood pressure continuously could be as simple as applying a small, wearable sensor to the skin?

That’s the challenge Vena Vitals, a resident company at Roseman Bioventures, is working to solve.

The Las Vegas-based medical device startup was recently featured by reporter Todd Dewey in the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vegas Business for its work developing a wearable sensor designed to provide continuous, noninvasive blood pressure monitoring.

Described in the article as a potential “holy grail” of patient monitoring, Vena Vitals’ technology is designed to capture blood pressure beat by beat without relying on a traditional inflatable cuff or an invasive arterial line.

The company’s soft, skin-like sensor adheres to the body much like a small patch, with the goal of giving healthcare providers continuous blood pressure information while reducing the discomfort and limitations associated with existing monitoring methods.

Vena Vitals has tested its technology with hundreds of patients in operating-room settings and is working toward U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance. The company sees potential applications not only in hospitals and surgical environments, but eventually in at-home monitoring, where continuous blood pressure data could provide clinicians with a more complete picture of a patient’s cardiovascular health.

Building Medical Technology in Las Vegas

Vena Vitals operates a lab at Roseman Bioventures, Roseman University of Health Sciences’ life sciences innovation and entrepreneurship initiative in Las Vegas.

Its work represents the type of company Roseman Bioventures was created to support: innovators translating promising science and technology into products with the potential to improve health and healthcare.

For early-stage life sciences companies, developing a promising technology is only part of the challenge. Moving from an idea or prototype toward clinical validation, regulatory approval, manufacturing and commercialization requires specialized infrastructure, expertise, partnerships and access to capital.

Roseman Bioventures is helping create that environment in Southern Nevada by bringing entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, industry partners and other resources together within a growing life sciences ecosystem.

Vena Vitals’ progress also demonstrates that groundbreaking medical technologies don’t have to be developed exclusively in traditional biotechnology hubs. They can be built and advanced right here in Las Vegas.

As Southern Nevada continues to diversify its economy and expand its presence in healthcare, biotechnology and medical innovation, companies like Vena Vitals are helping demonstrate what is possible.
